I was a keen club swimmer from the age of 8. I started at Bromsgrove Prep School in 2008, which was well known for its strong swimming squad at the time, and quickly became involved in as many of the other school sports teams as I possibly could. I represented the school initially for swimming, hockey, netball and rounders. My enthusiasm for sport eventually lead to my PE teacher asking me to complete his junior Cross Country team as not many others had volunteered to run through the rain and mud! I finished 5th in my first race and I’ve had the running bug ever since. Thanks Mr Jones!

When did you really start to get involved with competitive running?

At age 13 I decided to focus on my running and I joined the wonderful Bud Baldaro and the Birmingham University training group for three sessions a week. I fell in love with the set up at University of Birmingham and began studying Natural Sciences at the University in 2013. Having stuck with the group for a solid seven years, last summer I decided to venture to Iowa State University to see what the collegiate NCAA system had to offer. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t meant to be as a freak hip injury ruled me out for the year and left me needing surgery. Now well into recovery and back to complete my final year at UoB, I am hoping to end on a high.

Goals for 2017

To achieve personal bests over distances from 1500m-10,000m with the target of earning European U23 selection for the 5,000m &/or 10,000m
