Background

With a background in track and cross-country competition, 2017 was arguably Verity’s most successful year to date, in which she improved her best times over no fewer than five different distances. Among that year’s highlights were her 15:46 over 5000m at the British Championships and a 2nd place finish at the Cardiff leg of the British Athletics XC Challenge. In January 2018 she competed at the Antrim International XC, finishing an impressive 4th (and first European). This result led to her first GB selection at the Great Edinburgh Cross a week later. In February, she ran for England at the Armagh International 3km, finishing 3rd. Verity attributes her recent successes to the two years she spent on an athletics scholarship at Lamar University in Texas, a competitive environment in which she thrived.

After finishing a superb 2nd at the Liverpool leg of the Cross Challenge series in late November, Verity earned automatic selection to the GB team for the European Cross Country Championships in December. She was also in the GB team for the recent Great Stirling XC, finishing 5th. In April 2019 she made a very strong start to her outdoor track season with a new PB over 5000m of 15:40 at the Bryan Clay Invitational meet in California. At the end of May she recorded two PBs in less than 24hrs, clocking 4:35 for 4th at the Westminster Mile and 32:39 for 3rd at the Vitality London 10,000 the following morning.

Alongside her running, Verity is an accomplished writer and poet.
