One of our youngest athletes produced the performance of his life in yesterday’s Seville Marathon (19 February) in Spain.
23-year-old Douglas Chebii, who lives and trains on the Run-Fast camp in Iten, Kenya, crossed the line in 4th position in 2:09:48. This lowers his PB by around a minute and a half, and is the third improvement of his best time in as many races.
His result in Spain also earns Douglas IAAF Gold Label status (the highest ranking available), which is accorded to athletes who run sub-2:10 or faster for the marathon distance.
In the race itself, Douglas was in the lead group until around 30km, after passing 10km in 30:30 and halfway in 1:04:06. Kenya’s Titus Ekiru was first across the line in 2:07:43.
Douglas will now return to Kenya before pacing the Santiago Marathon in April.
