The 2016 Run-Fast Birmingham team of seven middle and long-distance athletes is aiming for more success at the international championships in 2017.
Announcing its new members for the coming year the team, which is sponsored by Adidas and My Protein, is a partnership between the Run-Fast Sports Management agency and the University of Birmingham. It aims to support athletes as they make the transition from top university competition to a serious commitment to international success after graduation.
Highlights from the first year of the team’s inception included seeing three of its athletes, Jonathan Davies, Alison Leonard and Sara Treacy, compete in Amsterdam at the 2016 European Athletics Championships in July. Sara Treacy also went on to compete for the Irish team at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
The full team composition for 2016-2017 is Jonathan Davies, Will Gray, Alison Leonard, Sara Treacy, Julia Cooke, Louise Webb and Becky Straw.
Looking back over the team’s first year, Luke Gunn, Head of Athletics at the University of Birmingham, said: “We’ve made a good start to developing a team of serious-minded athletes aiming for international success. We’re grateful for the support we’ve had from Run-Fast in arranging races and kit sponsorship for the athletes, which adds to the range of support services available to our top athletes here.”
Peter McHugh, director of Run-Fast Sports Management added: “The strength of the team comes largely from the fantastic set-up in Birmingham and the hard work of the athletes and coaches. Our aim is to give an additional level of support at a crucial stage in an athlete’s career. We’re looking forward to an even better year in 2017.”
