Weekend Race Roundup: 15 May 2016

The bulk of this weekend’s action took place here in the UK, with one race on the schedule abroad.

In the Chester Half Marathon, Run-Fast duo Mark Kibiwott  and Jonah Chesum replicated their success at last weekend’s Hackney Half,  finishing 1st and 2nd respectively again. Without the sweltering heat they were both able to pull out times around a minute quicker than last week, with Mark winning in 1:03:58 and Jonah coming through next in 1:05:48.

In the Bristol 10k Rachel Felton, who recently represented Great Britain in the World Half Marathon Championships, showed great form to win the women’s race in 34:16.

At the BMC Grand Prix at Manchester Sportcity, Pete Huck opened up his track season in the 5000m, running 14:19 to come 11th in the highly competitive ‘A’ race.  This is Pete’s second fastest time ever over the distance and just 4 seconds off his PB.

Arguably the performance of the weekend was oversees in Lativa, where Dominic Kimwetich smashed the course record of the Riga Marathon. It was in the last couple of miles that he made his kick, breaking away from Eritrean athlete Kaleab Selomon, to cross the finish line in 2:11:45. This result is a display of Dominic’s consistency, having run just two seconds quicker than this in the Barcelona Marathon back in March.
